Artist Statement

Art and creativity has always been a part of my life. From playing piano to creating my own films when I was young- it has always been my go-to. Film brings me a type of joy that nothing else really can. I got into making films when I was in 7th grade, where I would make little acting and dancing videos for my grandparents, knowing it puts a smile on their faces. From lip-syncing and dancing to “Mama I’m a Big Girl Now” from Hairspray, to “Put your head on my shoulder, By Paul Anka. Every smile that they gave, boosted my confidence to continue my filming experience. I joined Mr. Bomboy’s film class when I was a freshman, and followed it all the way up to my senior year. It was the best class, and I learned so many different and new things. Even though my main focus is acting and directing, I still had a blast with writing scripts and storyboards. Something about being able to write down my creative ideas made me even more excited with each film I made. Many of my films I make a...

Blog Post 5/8

This blog post will be focused on my DAF designs and progress:   So far, I have been writing the explanations that I will be using for my photos, as well as finding pictures. Sadly, the photo's that I selected for the DAF were deleted off of a file, so I have to copy them all again from my Mac, and re-do the editing in photoshop at school. I plan on having everything done by Thursday evening, possibly even Wednesday during class, depending on how things work.  My designs mainly stayed the same- I will start pulling things together for my display over the week- and I can always go shopping over the next week and a half, as we are working on our projects. I have starred all the films I am going to use for my display, and I plan on just having it on loop. So far, I believe I have about 5 starred- and I might make little projects on the side to add more variety. I've been thinking about the decorations I can add around my display, and so I might do some research on Pinterest ...

Danny Elfman, one of the most well know music composers in the world. With amazing scores from: Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, etc.  But, what exactly do film music composers do?  Film composers  create the musical score that accompanies a film,(film core). It can fall into 3 different categories.  https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000384/ Diegetic Music: Music that can be heard by the characters in the depicted scene. You might see a character attending a parade with marching bands or concert/dance. For example: Schmigadoon or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Non-Diegetic Music: This is the most common form of film music, which is typically referred to as the underscore. This music, the characters can not hear. (Think of the tense vibrato strings when the protagonist of a horror film is entering the haunted basement- or the swelling harp arpeggios when two lovers kiss in an old-fashioned romance.) Songs: Some films are scored with...

Casting directors have a very important job, when it comes to anything with acting. (Hence why their names in the credits are close to the directors).  A casting director is involved in the production of a film from the start of the project. In the pre-production phase of a show, the casting director will read the script to determine which actors might fit well in the roles that are listed.  https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/working-casting-will-make-successful-actor-1619/ Then, they work with the producers to determine the casting needs and the budget for the actors- they also meet with the director to get a sense of what the show's leader envisions for the characters in the production. From that point, the casting director then becomes the driver of the cast. Casting directors run auditions, contact companies that assist with local extras and casting, and also connecting with local talent agents in various states and countries when the production requires it.

Async. Blog 4/13

As of right now, I do not plan on changing much. I am pretty set on my design, but I still need to figure out what I'm going to use for coloring. Whether it be marker, crayon (although that might look a bit rough on the cardboard), Or I could also try color pencil (but that might take too long. Thinking about it more, I'll probably use sharpie and other markers to do designs, to write my name and anything else that needs to be written on- and not typed. Everything else will be typed in Times New Roman, with size 12 font, and double spaced.  I plan on printing out a few photos of actors, directors, etc. who have inspired me,and then write a short blurb next to their photo explaining how they influenced/inspired me and maybe how they got to be who they are, what their most famous work is, etc.  The same will be for the right side, but instead of the directors and actors, it'll be my own pieces of work, and screenshots that I took from some of my films. M...

My design is going to be like a movie premiere, in a way. It'll be a triangle, and I will be working on it at school. I'll probably have between 7-8 photos. And I will put a collar of videos (I'm not sure how many yet).  My colors won't be too bright, but I will probably use Sharpie or darker shades of Marker, when designing everything.  The middle will have my name and what my class is: Film Portfolio. My name will be on the top and bottom part of the clapperboard (Which'll have lights around it). Underneath will be where the screen is, and I'll have a cardboard "table" set in the middle so it can rest on it. Then underneath I will have printed out scripts that I have written that people can read.  On the Left I will have my student thesis/paragraph on top- I'm not sure if I'm going to add a photo next to it or not yet. But then below I'm going to add a title of: 'Who Inspired Me:' and underneath there will be photos of actors/ac...
