WORK LOG:
When it comes to working with costumes and makeup, it is important that the clothes fit the time period, and that the colors fit the mood. There are also certain aesthetics as well, when it comes to film, and it is important for the director and clothing designer to come to an agreement that it matches and works best with the feeling and scenes. Clothing helps make up emotion and shows thee audience how comfortable or uncomfortable the character is currently, in that scene. For example: If a character is comfortable, they might be wearing a sweater with jeans or leggins, with socks. But if a character is uncomfortable, they might be wearing something tight or something that doesn't fit the how they wanted it too. Clothing also shows personality and the aura's they may carry. More happy people might wear brighter colors, while more evil or sad people will wear darker, plain colors. There are many things you can show with clothes, and it goes along the lines of personality/emotion, it also shows class. Whether they are rich or poor, even middle class. It shows how well they take care of themselves, and if they are clean kind of people. It is the job of the clothing designer to decide what goes best with each scene, and if what the character (Actor) is wearing, best shows the idea that is trying to be shown/processed.
Audio for films, is another important value. When watching a film, especially a horror or thriller, the music helps in indicating if there is going to be something scary happening or not. The music might be quite and then get louder and louder, or it might be dead silent- and then there is a high pitched sound as the jump scare happens. For an example, in the movie Insidious, when the mother is taking out the trash, the record is slowly playing, and then it scratches and changes to "tiptoe through the tulips", adding to the unsteadiness of the scene. The scene's color was already slightly off with being toned down to be darker, bringing that grey, gloomy, feeling to the audience and characters. The music is what helps the audience in feeling more emotion. The sadder the music the sadder the audience, the happier the music, the happier the audience. It is also important to not have music too loud when actors or talking, because then you wouldn't be able to hear them, but then you don't want the music too quiet, because then you wouldn't be able to get the full effect and emotion that the director is trying to show.
