Green screen (Or sometimes blue) is a big part of Cinematics. It is part of special effects, but in its own way. It's the backdrop against, where footage is shot, but than later is superimposed over a separately filmed background- in a visual effects program. Mainly known as: Chroma key compositing, color keying, or simply- Keying.
Unless you are the Squid Game's director, Hwang Dong-hyuk who makes almost everything, or even James Cameron who re-created a large model of the Titanic to use for filming- green screen is put in place.

Most of the Marvel and Avenger movies use green screen, since a lot of it is things exploding and getting destroyed. Another major film that used green screen is 'The Great Gatsby.'
Green screen has been used in film since the 1930's for layering two (or more) images and videos. It was originally blue when chroma keying was first used by Larry Butler on 'The Thief of Baghdad' which won him an Academy Award for special effects. And, since then, the green color has become more common.
